Our Bathroom Renovation: The Mood-Board

Bathroom Inspiration

Before we moved into the flat we spent about two months splitting our time between here and our old flat to get as many renovations done as we could before we moved in. During this phase we spent a lot of time on the M25 and even more time at the Burger King drive-thru. It was dusty, messy and stressful; though we managed to tackle about 75% of the flat in eight weeks thanks to Mark being a star and staying cool, calm and collected and all the trades pulling through (no thanks to my crying episodes that happened on average about three times a day). One area that we didn’t managed to tackle though was the bathroom and although we planned to get to it straight after we moved in, we’ve got comfortable, used to there not being an inch deep layer of dust on everything and ended up leaving it a while – but it’s time to get to it. Over the next few months we’re planning on turning the bathroom from a damp, mouldy room into something slightly more tranquil and place that’s a bit more pleasant to spend time in.

Here’s what we’re thinking so far. Mood-board wise you can see that our love affair with subway tiles is still going strong. We’re planning on using the same grout and tiles that we used in the kitchen and then using the same hexagonal tiles on the floor, except in black because white floors in bathrooms mean that I spend every minute that I’m in there wondering where all of this hair/unidentified fluff *shudders* has come from.

Whilst I love the idea of a double sink (though I’m not so into the idea of having two sinks that I need to clean) Mark has vetoed that one so I think we’ll be sticking to something quite simple. Though I like the idea of having some room to stretch out product-wise so I think we’ll look for a unit that’s quite wide and with storage underneath so we have somewhere to store towels and other bits and bobs. Oh and hell yes to a mirrored medicine cabinet. I’ve always dreamt of having one of those.

When you mention a bathroom renovation, people shout out ‘ROLL TOP BATH!’ before you even have time to finish saying renovation, though we’re still toying with the idea. We’re not sure how the space would work with a roll-top but they do look the mutt’s nuts so we’re exploring all options. I’m just excited to have a bath that doesn’t have the enamel worn off so badly that it feels like sandpaper when you slide up against it *shudders again*.

Reading this post back, it just seems like a few paragraphs of somewhat bathroom-related mumbo jumbo, but sometimes a stream of renovation-related consciousness is just want you need, right? If anyone has any bathroom DIY tips and tricks, advice and must-dos then I’m all ears. Holler.
