New-In: Stila Liquid Lipsticks

I’ve been suffering from a big ol’ bout of FOMO recently. My subscription box is crammed with beauty gals and guys from the other side of the pond and after spending a fair amount of time digesting their videos, it’s got me in the mood to try something new in the liquid lipstick department. Dose of Colour, Ofra, Colourpop, Anastasia Beverly Hills, but with them being unavailable in the UK (unless you’re willing to drop a shedload of dollar on eBay), I’ve had to satisfy my needs with an alternative method and that’s where the new spring 2016 colours of the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks come in…

There are five new shades in total and I have somehow ended up with three. It was Baci that first made an appearance in my life when it dropped through my letterbox. It’s the perfect Jaclyn Hill shade – you know the one? A little bit pink, a little bit beige, a little bit grey. I’m not sure it suits me that well, but I mix it in with other colours and wear it on its own whenever I’m feeling like channeling my inner Jaclyn, though the only person who has actually seen me in it so far is my postman. Don’t be fooled by its dusty rose appearance in the tube as it dries down with a lot less pink in it on the lips.

In love with the formula, despite the colour not being the most flattering, I needed to give some of the other colours a go, so eagerly awaited the spring drop to launch on Cult Beauty. When they did I picked up another two of the colours – Chianti and Ricco. Chianti is a deep plum, which like other colours I have in the same shade family, it suffers from the same uneven application issue. However a second layer does seem to correct things, so out of all the vampy liquid lipsticks I’ve tried, this one fares the best. My true love here though, is Ricco. It’s the browny, brick red that I’ve been looking for all along. Jaclyn would bloody love it. It’s not too brown that it makes your teeth look like a Hygienist’s nightmare, but it’s not too red that it’s got that movie star glam vibe. It’s just different and is definitely the one out of the three that I’d point you in the right direction of.

A quick note on the texture. These are traditional ‘wet, not mousse-y’ liquid lipsticks, so go on feeling like a gloss and then dry down to a really matte, matte finish. There’s no balling or cracking but as to be expected with any moisture-zapped formula, they’re not exactly hydrating on the lips. They last well for a few hours without the need for touching up, though if you’re eating and drinking you might wish to do a quick touch-up in the centre of your lips. The applicator is just your simple doe foot so it doesn’t lend itself to the most precise application unless you have really steady hands, so I like to go in with some kind of lip liner before to get my lip line down. Oh and they smell like cake. WIN.
