For the first time in my life I’ve actually stuck to my New Year’s resolutions for longer than a couple of days. By the 4th January I’ve usually polished off a whole bag of Hobnobs, have worked out the best way to cancel my gym membership with minimal embarrassment (why do most places make you do it in person!?) and have given in to one of the multiple offers that Domino’s are always sending over. This year though, something was different; I’ve still got that gym membership and I actually use it, I’ve yet to stuff my face with a whole bag of biscuits (just the half packet every now and again) and have stayed strong despite Domino’s daily pestering. Do I feel ok? Maybe I should sit down. Here’s a little update at how the rest of my New Year’s resolutions have been going down…

BE SMARTER WITH MONEY. I was never the worst with money, but I’ve never been the best either and the odd Whistles spree here and there soon adds up. The whole ‘Capsule Wardrobe’ thing has meant that my clothing budget has been cut dramatically (along with my ASOS procrastination) and meal planning has helped us reduce our food bills too. Instead of fearing signing in to my online banking account, I’ve tried to check at least every other day so I’m more aware of what’s going in and out and just feel more on top of my finances. Boo – adulting.

BE THE STRONGEST, HEALTHIEST ME. The whole fitness kick is going pretty well. I go actually go to the gym for a start which already puts me leaps ahead of any other ‘get fit’ attempts and I bizarrely enjoy it. I’m getting stronger by the day and it feels nice to be able to lug bags of food shopping up the stairs without sounding like a wheezing whale. Hand in hand with gym going is the fact that I have to shower and wash my hair all the darn time, but this ties in to another one of my less official New Year’s resolutions – moisturise more. My skin had been getting a bit snakeskin-like, so after washing I’ve been applying the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour® Cream All-Over Miracle Oil quite literally all-over; on my limbs, a little on my hair and then taking the residue over my face as well. It smells divine, my snakeskin limbs now look a little more J.Lo-like and with the inclusion of the new ‘it‘ Tsubaki Oil, it delivers some seriously long-lasting hydration. If you fancy trying it for yourself, head to an Elizabeth Arden counter now of your chance to try a deluxe sample. If you share a picture then remember to use the hashtag – #EightHourOil.

LEARN PHOTOSHOP AND CAMERA SKILLS. I know enough to get by when it comes to my camera and editing skills, but I’m most definitely still a beginner and use Photoshop purely for making photo collages and nothing more. The same goes for my camera. I’ve have the Canon 600D now for five years and have only just worked out how to customise the white balance. DOH! It’s time to up my skill-set so I’m booked in for a Jessops course so I can finally do more with my camera other that auto-mode.

TAKE TIME OUT. I feel like this is the resolution that I need to prioritise higher. Switching off and relaxing is hard to do when you’re a one-man band, but at the weekends I try to go as phone and internet-free as possible. In the evenings I try to leave my phone in another room instead of scrolling aimlessly when I’m lounging out on the sofa and I think it’s time to get a holiday in the diary too. I’m trying to twist Mark’s arm to get booked up for Santorini. It looks like a dream.
