How To Look Like You’ve Spent The Weekend Away

IMG_3116

It seems like everyone on my Facebook timeline is currently away sunning themselves on some glorious, Instagram-friendly retreat. Me aside of course. But before getting out the world’s smallest violin to play the world’s saddest song I turned to my beauty stash. If I can’t go away for the weekend that doesn’t mean that I can’t make myself look like I’ve been away, caught some rays, embarked on a load of sleep, all that kind of good R&R stuff, right? Of course my social media feeds are full of cooking, cleaning and errand related tweets kinda give it away but that won’t stop me attempting to look bronzed, relaxed and rested. Here’s what’s in my ‘How to look like you’ve had a weekend away’ kit…

Tanning time. It’s an obvious one, but a layer or two of tan is a sure fire way to that ‘Have you been away?’ question. Though I often wonder if it’s just people masking their bemusement for that fact that yesterday my complexion was more akin to Casper the friendly ghost. Listing my tanning essentials would turn this post into dissertation length so I’ll direct you over to this video, but the takeaway is that I love the Xen Tan Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe and a dusting of Bobbi Brown’s Brightening Blush in Bronze over the cheeks will top that off perfectly.

Water loading. Copious amounts of water = seriously glowing skin, fact. When I’ve slacked on my intake my lips look like shrivelled little prunes and my complexion looks grey. It ain’t good. So put in the prep work on the Sunday, keeping a glass of water nearby and taking frequent sips as you tick off your to-do list. I pop a few slices of lemon in mine to make the constant glugging more bearable.

Blow dry fresh. I can go between two to three days without washing my locks, but nothing beats that first day hair and even by the second day things feel a little bit ‘unfresh’ shall we say? Set the alarm a little earlier than usual, hop in the shower and dunk you hair under to escape feelings of dry shampoo needy-ness during your Monday. My favourite for that ‘so clean it squeaks, but I promise it’s a good thing’ feeling is the Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo. Nothing cleans up quite like it. Pop in some the Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil Primer (seriously amazeballs, I’ll pop up a review soon), dry away and you’ll be swishing around your hair in an advert like fashion for the rest of the day.

A phwoor lip. There’s something about a bold lip that just says ‘hello I’m here Monday and I’m ready for you and I was unpacking this morning so I just threw on this lipstick and I know I look fab‘. The colour perks you up, the effect makes you look polished and here’s the best thing – although it looks like it took 10 minutes to perfect that morning it actually took one to slap on, pucker up and be done with it. NARS Schiap is a solid favourite, paired with lashings of mascara and a slightly dewy complexion, though a parred back yet still equally eye-catching colour comes in the form of Bourjois’ Velvet Rouge Edition in Olé Flamingo – a shade that seriously looks good on everyone and doesn’t require too much in the balls department to don.
