The drugstore VS. high-end debate is always going to be one that always rages on. Now I love what the UK highstreet has to offer, I’ve got the small fortune amassed on my Boots Advantage Card to prove it but my yearning for something a little luxe-r usually wins and there are many treats I forgo in life to fund that. Boo. However there are a few non wallet-whopping tried and products that crop up in my rotation; some newer additions and others that have been hanging around for yonks. There are two beauty areas in particular that I like to invest my pennies into – skincare and complexion. So it takes a lot from a product for me to break this rule, but two do and they’re no surprise as often frequenters of the blogger rave train – Revlon’s Nearly Naked Foundation* and Collection 2000’s Lasting Perfection Concealer. I’ve already given my post-long thoughts on Revlon’s latest addition to their foundation line-up but I find myself reaching for it on low-key days and being rather chuffed with the results. Light, skin-like coverage with a B+ in longevity. And when I need a spot covering up, nothing does it quite like Collection 2000’s souped-up heavy duty concealer. As a sidenote, in my experience mascaras are never worth the splurge – hello, L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara? Need I say anymore. The same goes for clear formulas too; Miss Sporty’s Just Clear Mascara holds my unruly brows in place and defines my bottom lashes, MUA also do one that does the same job for a pound. £1! Â
Where I tend to get a little spendy down the drugstore aisles is when it comes down to colour. Lips, eyes, cheeks, nails – it’s a great place to experiment with new shades without feeling too heartbroken in pocket if they don’t work out. Tips and lips is a mantra I’ve been going with at the moment and for a blot of colour on my chops – Sleek’s True Colour Lipstick in Tangerine Scream* is fab for a clout of pout with a touch of MAC’s Morange about it. Matte, yet creamy and long-lasting but not flake-inducing. For something a little sheerer, 17’s Mirror Shine Lipsticks fit the bill – even my lipstick-loathing Mum has one of these rolling around in her handbag;Â Nudist Peach is her favourite and Beehive mine. A new-ish discovery in the nail polish arena are Rimmel’s 60 Second Nail Colours as advocated by my best mate Mel. A shedload of colours, a hardy formula and chip as chips – the shade Sun Downer is an odds-on favourite to make this month’s favourites cut.
So there you have it – just a few ideas of what next to splurge your Boots points on. Of course there’s always the meal deal. And my advice on that? Always chicken and stuffing.
