Five Beauty Bits To Try If You Haven’t Already

IMG_0583

Today we’re talking major enabling, so if your pay day doesn’t come till the end of the week then you may wish to look away now. There are a few things that I’ve been using recently that I’ve been banging on about to my mates – ‘Guys have you heard of X? YOU NEED IT IN YOUR LIFE!‘ – because yes my enabling powers transfer to real life too. Seeing as I’ve been having these conversations with my nearest and dearest I thought I’d share with my online nearest and dearest. Now these five beauty bits aren’t exactly new, nor uncovered ground, but you’ve got to try them if you haven’t already…

Right. Let’s talk base. There’s two products that have been floating my boat recently and both do that whole ‘dewy, without being greasy’ thang. First up is the BECCA Backlight Priming Filter. At first I was blinded by love for the name, but as time has passed I’ve realised that the formula lives up the ridiculously genius branding. One pump, smooshed in all over the face gives a pearlescent glow that isn’t too peachy, too silver or too pink; it just leaves behind a pearlescent shimmer-free gleam to the skin. It’s not heavy or tacky in finish so doesn’t grip to foundation to elongate wear-time or any of that business. It’s more a nice prep-step that looks beautiful on its own or gives a bit of glow to whatever is applied on top. Speaking of which the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation in 117/Y225 has weaselled its way back into my everyday makeup bag. I was a bit on the fence with this one at first as compared to the original it’s a much more natural, light/medium/buildable coverage. I wanted more from it, you know? But over time I’ve warmed up to it because it blends in seamlessly to the skin and really does look like you’re not wearing makeup at all. SCORE.

Another base fave which is a huge throwback is the MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural – remember this? Before all the fancy ambient powders with micro-pearl finishes, this is what was used to set in a way that never, ever ended up cakey. I used it the other day because I had a real yearning for its coverage and long-lasting, yet natural looking abilities, though I feel like the shade Medium is a tad ambitious right now. I think a trip to the MAC store needs to happen…

For eyes recently, I’ve been all about the Viseart Eyeshadow Palette in 01 Neutral Matte. There’s something about a fully matte lid look that just screams chic to me (I think it’s the Olivia Palermo effect). There’s a nice mix of warm and cool shades in here, but it’s the warmer ones that I tend to gravitate towards and I usually do something very simple just popping a mid-tone brown all over the lid then using a dark chocolate colour as a liner. I don’t own many palette these days, but this one I always go back too. And the pigment is INSANE. That is all.

Another oldie but a goodie is MAC Lipstick in Patisserie. If you asked me what’s my number one MAC Lipstick and what colour would I suggest as a shade that looks good on everyone – this is what I would go for. I know we’re all into the mauve browns these days, but every now and again I just want something that doesn’t look obvious on lips, that provides a bit of shine but doesn’t look glossy and this fits that bill exactly.
