Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Foundation: The Deats

I’ve got to give it to the Charlotte Tilbury marketing team because whenever there’s a new release on counter, the barrage of videos, Instagrams and tweets convince me that whatever it is – I NEED it. The urge isn’t helped when paired with a tonne of beauty blogger raves and before you know it I’m traipsing to counter and filling up my basket with way more than I intended to. Hook, line and sinker – every time. The product in question this time was the Magic Foundation. Heard of it? Of course you have. It’s billed as C.T’s ‘fawless, poreless, long-lasting‘ formula and with claims like that, I just had to give it a go…

Right here are the headlines. There are 15 shades in total and the range is pretty large. After 10 minutes of swatching the Sales Assistant matched me to 2 which is spot-on for my complexion around this time of year when I haven’t been fake tanning. It’s £29.50 for 30ml and it comes housed in a glass bottle with a rose gold lid which feels hefty and luxe. There’s a pump inside that deposits a nice amount, though a little extra comes out each time so I mop it up and use it under my eyes so the lid doesn’t get all messy. Virgo problems, eh?

OK onto the pros. The formula is quite thick upon first pump, but it blends in well and the coverage is definitely medium to full – my dark circles are just peeking through but hardly and my redness just disappears. The finish is a strange one for quite a full-on foundation in that it feels light, it’s not tacky at all and it’s like a satin finish – not too dewy or matte. It just looks like skin. I like it applied onto a freshly moisturised face and blended in with fingers and a BeautyBlender, because I find the coverage a bit doll-like when I use a brush. So if it’s a full coverage finish that you’re after then grab a buffing brush and have fun. It doesn’t sit in pores or lines and it stays in place pretty well, though after six hours or so it starts to break down in my usual spots (chin and nose), but it’s nothing that a touch-up can’t sort.

Firstly I feel like there are a few packaging cons. As I already mentioned the pump tends to dribble out a bit more product after you’ve done your pump so things have the potential to get messy and the lid is a bit of a faff to get back on sometimes. Those are minor concerns though and I feel like overall it’s a pretty crowd-pleasing formula. Yes, it would be easy to go overboard with this and the texture is quite thick depending on how you apply it, but it’s nothing that a bit of swatching on counter couldn’t help you determine whether it’s up your street or not. It’s dewy enough appease dry skins and matte enough for greasy gals and guys.

Charlotte Tilbury love, you’ve done it again.
