Autumn Eyelids: Five of My Favourites

I love a good autumn eye look as you’ll see in my Autumn Edit video that’s going up this Sunday (make sure you don’t miss it here). Something rusty, warm-toned and all chocolatey on the eye makes me go all swoony. Of course there’s always the worry that you’re heading into pink eye territory but it’s nothing that a bit of nude liner and a heavy handed application of mascara can’t sort out. It’s not just the red undertones I love though, I’m also a fan of cracking out my deep bronzes and purple taupes – basically anything that if it were edible, you’d want to eat it off a spoon. Too far? OK. Back to my five favourite autumn eyelid picks…

Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette Colour-Coded Eyeshadows in The Dolce Vita – £38 – from Selfridges. If you’d like to treat yourself to the perfect autumnal palette then ladies and gents – this is it. The shimmery nude and brown pair together beautifully for an everyday eye and if you want to add in the rust then you can with a copper that doesn’t lean too pinky. Want to amp it up even more for an evening look? Dab on the glitter. It’s pricey, but set-up in a way that means you can literally just wear this palette all day, erry’day.

MAC Eyeshadow in Cranberry – £13 – from Selfridges. This is a classic. I mean, it would be rude to talk about autumnal eyeshadows and not mention this one, right? For the longest time I was terrified of this burgundy shimmer but I realised that the key to wearing it well is all in the placement. Try not to blend it too high and diffuse out the colour with a warm camel brown – perfect.

Tom Ford Creme Colour for Eyes in Spice – £29 – from Harrods. This is an interesting shade. It’s a little bit of copper, mixed with caramel, mixed with a subtle golden shimmer. The formula is pretty wet for a cream finish, but the nice thing is that it goes on sheer and is easy to layer up. Unfortunately I don’t think this colour is currently available – ‘Please Mr Ford can you bring this limited edition beauty back again?‘ – but luckily there’s a dupe in the form of Max Factor’s Excess Shimmer in Bronze. You can thank me later.

NARS Single Colour Eyeshadow in Ondine – £16.50 – from Look Fantastic. I’m not sure I wish to ever admit how long I’ve had this colour in my stash for, but when the cool weather rolls around, out it comes every year. This is as cool toned as I go when it comes to eyeshadows, but being a purple-based taupe it works well with my pale eyes and makes a change from all my bronzes and golds that I grab on the reg.

Bourjois Colourband Eyeshadow & Liner in Brun Dadaiste – £6 – from Very. A deep warm chocolate bronze pencil that once you apply, you’d better get blending because man this stuff sets fast. I find it to work best as a chunky eyeliner and like lining my upper and bottom lashlines with it before things get seriously smudgy.
