An Ironic Book Haul

IMG_0334

Recently I’ve felt the need to downsize. To streamline and edit and basically cut the crap. It all started with the discovery of Caroline’s blog – Unfancy – which kickstarted my urge to clear out my wardrobe and create a capsule collection of clothing (more on that at the weekend) and now it’s seeped into other areas of the home and my new favourite procrastination tool is clearing out the kitchen cupboards (it eats up hours – oops).

Now the idea of minimalism isn’t exactly something I want to embrace with both arms and kiss in the face just yet, but it’s definitely something I want to hear more about, so with that in mind I picked up three books on the subject. Sort of unnecessary, sort of ironic – you’ve just got to laugh. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo is a oft-talked about book that I’ve yet to read, but I’m sure will give me a good kick up the bum when it comes to de-cluttering, as I can imagine Banish Clutter Forever by Sheila Chandra will too. The Joy of Less by Francine Jay had crazy good reviews on Amazon so I picked it up as well. I’ll have to report back once I’ve given them a good read, but my thinking was that just one cookie cutter approach might not work for everyone, so I thought I’d pick out all the best bits and practices from all three readings.

I really struggle with these types of books because I always want to read them when I’m in the house because I know that if I read them whilst I’m away then I’ll have an extreme urge to head home and get tidying IMMEDIATELY. So on the lighter reading note I purchased Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling because I love her and she’s my spirit animal.
